08/07/2024: The Drama and Music portals have reopened for the 2025 cycle. In both categories, the eligibility deadline is December 31, 2024; however, submissions will continue to be accepted until January 3, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.

05/31/2024: The Books entry portal has reopened for the 2025 cycle (encompassing eligible work published in calendar year 2024). Please note that works published in calendar year 2023 (including the fourth quarter of that year) are no longer eligible.

The recommended deadline for books published between January 1 and July 15, 2024 is July 15, 2024 at 5:30 p.m, although entries will continue to be accepted until October 15.

For Books entrants: After creating an account (if applicable) or logging in with a preexisting account via the Login/Create Account button in the top right corner of this page, click on the Submit an Entry button on the top scroll bar (please note that this may not render properly on mobile devices; we recommend using a desktop or laptop for the application) to complete the entry form and pay non-refundable $75 entry fee by credit card no later than 5:30 p.m. EDT on October 15, 2024.  

Each spring, Columbia University awards Pulitzer Prizes in eight Books, Drama and Music categories. The winners are chosen by the Pulitzer Prize Board, which seeks to recognize excellence by eligible American writers, playwrights and composers.

All entry forms and fees must be submitted electronically. Paper forms, checks and cash are not accepted.

Recommended deadline for books published between January 1 and July 15, 2024: July 15, 2024. Final deadline for all book entries, including those published in the final quarter of the year: October 15, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time. Eligibility deadline for Drama and Music consideration: December 31, 2024. Submission deadline for Drama and Music entries: January 3, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.

Entry fee: $75 per entry - paid by credit card only (MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover).
